Team IBEW Takes the Plunge for Special Olympics Minnesota!!
Saturday, February 20, 2010, Rockville, MN - What motivates highly skilled, well trained electricians to jump into a frozen lake in late February? For Team IBEW, it was the opportunity to raise money for and in support of Special Olympics Minnesota. Four brave souls from Team IBEW raised over $500 and took the plunge with 300 other St. Cloud area residents raising over $50,000 to benefit Special Olympics Minnesota. Through the enthusiastic participation of Team IBEW and their fellow plungers, a difference was made in the lives of 6,500 Minnesota athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Sponsored and organized by local law enforcement personnel, thirteen polar plunges are staged throughout Minnesota during the months of January, February and March.
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Special Olympics MN have a long standing partnership not only with the Polar Plunge, but also as the presenting sponsor of the Northland 300 snowmobile fundraiser held in January. The Northland 300 involves 100 participants riding from Two Harbors to Ely, MN raising $192,566.00 in 2010, its 22nd year.
In the greater Twin Cities Metropolitan area (including St. Cloud and surrounding communities), IBEW members represent over 3500 of the most skilled, professional and highly trained electricians in the industry. IBEW members are your friends and neighbors who enjoy giving back to the communities which they've worked so hard to build. The IBEW is proud to support Special Olympics Minnesota.
